Teachers: Take part

The Shape the Future Zone is running during Science Week 2019 (11th–15th November)

The activity is open to all schools in the Republic of Ireland, to involve your class, register here.

What is the Shape the Future Zone?

What does sustainability mean to your students? Efficiency? Recycling? A better way of living? One thing is clear: our planet needs bright ideas and new ways of thinking, consuming and living.

School students and members of the public have been submitting their ideas to use 3D printing to create a more sustainable future. From pieces of art expressing the idea of sustainability, ideas for new products that will help us reduce our carbon footprint, and new uses for old products.

The finallists will be paired with 3D printing researchers to develop their idea, and during Science Week 2019, it will be down to your students to quiz the finallists and researchers through ASK questions and live CHATs, before casting their VOTE for the idea they think deserves to win.

One winning idea will be turned into 3D printed reality by researchers at I-Form, with a €500 prize going to the winner to help promote their sustainability work.

What can my class do?

During Science Week 2019 (11–15 November), your class will go online to ask their questions to the finallists in the Shape the Future competition, before choosing the idea they think most deserves to be made into 3D printed reality.
